The Pyrenean Sheepdog, also known as the Berger des Pyrenees, is seen in two varieties, the longhaired and the smooth-muzzled. This breed, the smallest of the native French sheep dogs, has a long history of working in the south of France and has been bred for its excellent endurance and tremendous stamina. They also possess a highly attuned natural guarding instinct.
Character//
Hard working and highly intelligent. The Pyrenean will form a strong attachment to their master and will enjoy working closely with a clear defined aim. Due to their working history they have retained a sense of independence yet are constantly aware of their situation and ready to react.
Size//
The Pyrenean Sheepdog should measure between 40-48cm, bitches slightly less at 38-46cm.
Health//
There are no known major conditions to be aware of with the Pyrenean Sheepdog although as with all energetic breeds try to limit exercise as a puppy to avoid aggravating any muscular or joint complaints.
Special Care//
A hardy breed requiring little special attention. All one really needs to be aware of is their need for space and stimulation to keep them happy.Remember! All breed profiles are general and every dog is an individual.
