The Patterdale is a type of Fell Terrier, originating in the Ullswater region of the Lake District. The breed is not recognised as distinct by the Kennel Club and is instead considered as a 'type'. The Patterdale is a highly effective working dog, regarded as the finest hunt terrier, and its appearance and size are often considered secondary to its working ability and personality.
Character//
Confident and outgoing dogs, Patterdales have no concept of their own size and will happily take on the largest challenges. They are friendly and sociable but one must remember that the Patterdale is still first and foremost a working breed and needs to be exercised with a good training program.
Size//
The Patterdale should measure between 25-35cm and weigh between 5-10kg.
Health//
A hardy, healthy breed with few major problems.
Special Care//
Little special care is required although the Patterdale does not respond well to boredom and a lack of stimulation
Remember! All breed profiles are general and every dog is an individual.
