A Dutch working dog, the Kooikerhondje loves water and is an adept swimmer due to their original role luring ducks into traps for hunters along the Dutch waterways. They suffered terribly during the ravages of WWII, almost heading into extinction until the breed was carefully resurrected.
Character//
A lively and intelligent breed, highly trainable and protective of its territory.
Size//
Dogs should measure 35-40cm.
Health//
The Kooikerhondje is a hard-working breed and should stay fit and healthy although they are susceptible to a few hereditary issues such as epilepsy and von Willebrand's Disease.
Special Care//
If you aren't able to offer the Kooikerhondje enough exercise you'll need to keep a close eye on how much you are feeding him as they are prone to weight gain.
