A small breed, best suited to living life indoors and as a close companion. Originally a favourite of the Japanese aristocracy the breed was spread across Europe and America by means of gifting from one ruler to another.

Character//

Affable and pleasant, the Japanese Chin is well suited to life as a companion breed as it will develop a deep and strong bond with its family. Japanese Chin's should also get on well with other pets in the house although they may be startled easily by young children

Size//

The Breed Standard does not specify a height but instead states that the "daintier the better, providing type, quality and soundness are not sacrificed."

Health//

A generally healthy breed although its compact muzzle can cause breathing difficulties. 

Special Care//

Pay particular attention to keeping the eyes and ears clean and clear.
