The Italian Spinone or Italian Griffon originates from the Piedmont district of North West Italy. A member of the Hunt, Point and Retrieve section of gundogs, the Spinone is driven by his nose; whether this is sniffing out game or tasty morsels to snack on.
Character//
A loyal breed (well, to whoever has food) the Spinone is characteristically slow maturing physically and mentally. They thrive on consistent, careful handling and need plenty of mental stimulation.
Size//
A large dog ranging from 58-70cm at the withers.
Health//
The Spinone is generally a healthy breed but prospective owners should be aware of health problems including Hip Dysplasia, Epilepsy, Bloat and Cerebellar Ataxia.
Special Care//
Spinones have a passion for food and while this can be useful in training, this does mean they will steal any food they can find. They have even been known to open cupboards and fridges so free access to the kitchen is not recommended.
Remember! All breed profiles are general and every dog is an individual.
