The Kuvasz is an ancient breed, having worked the trade routes of the Urals. They found their way to Hungary, through the spread of the Ottoman Empire, finding a use guarding the flocks and villages from wolves. Kuvasz actually means 'protector' in Turkish, indicating the journey they travelled and their immense suitability for their role.
Character//
As their herding history would suggest, the Kuvasz will develop a strong bond with their family but will also remain independent. They can be quite assertive over the household and are aloof toward strangers.
Size//
The Breed Standard specifies a height of 71-75cm for dogs and 66-70cm for bitches. The weight of dogs should be between 40-52kg and bitches 30-42kg.
Health//
As with all large breeds the Kuvasz is prone to Hip Dysplasia and muscular condition.
Special Care//
Whilst still young, exercise should be restricted to avoid causing any lasting damage to their joints.
Remember! All breed profiles are general and every dog is an individual.
