Originally a working dog, the Pointer makes an excellent family companion. It is kind, obedient and sensitive.
Character//
Although they are primarily a working/hunting breed, Pointers need human contact and make an excellent family companion. They get on very well with children and other dogs and animals. They are sensitive souls and require plenty of tlc and rewards! They have a kind, even disposition and are very obedient. They don't make ideal guard dogs, as they are so friendly! They are very intelligent and quick to learn. They are very energetic and athletic.
Size//
Medium. The breed standards for bitches are height, 61-66 cm and weight 26 kg. For dogs, height 63-69 cm and weight 30kg.
Health//
The main health problems associated with pointers are hip dsyplasia, Thyroid problems and skin disorders
Special Care//
If left alone for long periods of time, Pointers can suffer from 'separation anxiety'. They can become destructive and develop behavioural problems. They need plenty of human contact and kindness! They also need lots of exercise.
