Character//

Generally easy-going and uncomplicated types. They are excellent with both the young and old, energetic but not over excitable. Ever the socialites they will meet most, human or animal warmly, but beware guard dogs they are not.

Size//

A dog or bitch will grow to between 30 - 33cm and weight from 5.5kg up to 8kg.

Health//

The big brown eyes and beautiful temperament has made this breed increasingly popular in recent years, which has created problems. Over breeding has lead to an increase in the heart condition Mitral Valve Disease in the breed, often resulting in premature death. It is vital to check the medical history several generations back of potential parents before choosing a pup or breeding yourself. Other ailments commonly found in the breed include heart murmurs, cataracts, hanging tongue (neurological inability to fully retract the tongue) and fly catching syndrome (a hallucinating condition).

Special Care//

The Cavalier King Charles does not necessarily crave exercise so beware of overfeeding as they can have a tendency to become overweight.

Remember! All breed profiles are general and every dog is an individual.
