As its name suggests the Brittany breed originated in the Northern region of France. They are the smallest of the hunt-point-retrieve and still popular as a working gundog to this day, the Breed Standard describes them as having an "exceedingly keen game sense".
Character//
Friendly, sweet natured and sensitive. The Brittany is regarded as being easy to train but sensitive to criticism and so should be treated in an even-handed manner. They should get on fine with any other pets or children provided that they are adequately socialized.
Size//
Dogs should ideally measure 48-51cm at the withers, bitches 47-50cm.
Health//
A generally healthy breed, especially if they enjoy enough exercise, although there is a higher than normal incidence of canine epilepsy amongst the Brittany. Their athletic nature also makes them prone to hip Dysplasia.
Special Care//
Care should be taken to check the ears for overgrown hair and debris.
Remember! All breed profiles are general and every dog is an individual.
