The Bearded Collie should be considered a sociable breed, they do not like to be left alone and form a strong attachment to their family, being excellent with children. They've been used to search for truffles due to their refined sense of smell.
Character//
An easy-going, well-balanced breed. The Bearded Collie will bond well with the family although they will require firm training as they retain an independent streak throughout their life. The Beardie will be a happy member of the family but do be aware that despite their regular barking they don't make particularly good guard dogs.
Size//
The Breed Standard specifies a height of 53-56cm for dogs and 51-53cm for bitches, with the proviso that quality and proportion should be considered in equal measures.
Health//
Hip Dysplasia is a common problem with Bearded Collies, although it can be avoided through careful selection of breeder and gentle management of their exercise in their early years. Life expectancy is 13-16 years, which is above average for breeds of this size.
Special Care//
Beardies generally do not respond well to negative training methods. Gentle encouragement and positive reinforcement will make them much more amenable to training.Remember! All breed profiles are general and every dog is an individual.
