An ancient English breed, Beagles have been popular since the reigns of Henry VIII and Elizabeth I. Excellent scent hound, working either in packs or individually.
Character//
The Breed Standard describes the Beagle as being "a merry hound...showing no aggression or timidity". They do maintain a strong hunting instinct and they are incredibly energetic and active.
Size//
The Beagle should measure between 33-40cm and ideally weigh no more than 20kg.
Health//
Inactivity is a concern for the Beagle as due to their body shape any additional weight places undue strain on their joints. An average lifespan of 12-14 years.
Special Care//
Be sure to clean his ears regularly as they are prone to infection. Due to their adventurous nature they often find themselves with scrapes and knocks so a working knowledge of canine first aid will come in handy.
