A skilled pack hound that has been bred to track game with their excellent sense of smell. Their bark is musical, almost melodious and their character placid.
Character//
A tenacious and stubborn mix, the Basset Hound was bred for its ability to hunt small to medium sized game and this is still a primary characteristic of the breed. They are pack dogs by nature but will integrate with a family nicely. Requiring firm training and socialization, you will find that they will almost always follow their nose before following you.
Size//
A low-slung large breed, the Breed Standard states that they should be between 33-38cm in height and with a weight between 18-27kg.
Health//
Common ailments include Bloat, back and joint conditions. They are also prone to ear infections.
Special Care//
Special attention must be paid to their eyes and ears, keeping them clean and clear. They are also susceptible to Bloat and weight issues.
