A happy go lucky little dog who loves to be active. They are independent and although always aim to please, they aren't naturally obedient so potential owners need patience and tolerance.
Character//
Males often fight amongst themselves for 'top dog' recognition from their owners. But generally they are an alert and enthusiastic dog.
Size//
The Breed Standard states they should be 33-38cm height. A small, low to the ground breed.
Health//
The breed has a tendency to suffer from back pain. Epilepsy has been known in the breed although selective breeding has reduced the occurence. They are expected to live for around 12 years.
Special Care//
As a breed they prefer cool weather to humid heat. They're not demanding with regard to feeding but for the first year of their lives Petit Basset Griffon Vendeens require an adequate diet to ensure good growth. Quite vocal dogs.
